There is of course a well-made point behind this – SharePoint is a great collaboration tool in many ways, but the performance is poor for remote workers and the web-based UI is not a natural interface for many use-cases. So much so that many users will avoid SharePoint as much as possible and try to work around it rather than with it.
The good news is that this can all be fixed, the performance issues for PC, Mac and Linux users are readily addressed through Replify’s WAN Optimization, and the usability issues are addressed by products such as those from Harmon.ie, Repstor and others. I think the true measure of success for SharePoint will be when the majority of users don’t actually realise they’re using it at all because they are consuming it through alternative interfaces and integration into other applications such as Outlook.
